Comments: | • Weight restrictions: Helipad: 16,000 pounds Parking pad: 8,000 pounds • Guidelines for parking pad: The pilot will determine if the aircraft is able to taxi to the parking pad. Exceptions prohibiting taxiing to the parking pad include high winds, size of aircraft (more than 8,000 pounds). A helicopter cannot land or takeoff from the parking pad, they must taxi back to the helipad for departure. • Automatic weather operating station (AWOS): Sky Harbor is closest. Duluth Airport is also an option. • Fire suppression: The fires suppression is automatic. There is a pull station that activates a foam suppression system. • Exit signage identifies a stairway for emergency egress. • New/different procedures for loading/offloading: Pilot will need to inform Essentia Health if and when to approach the aircraft. • Lighting Control: When flying into the heliport lighting control will be handled by Essentia Health St Mary's Communication Center. If there is a problem pilots have the ability to turn on heliport lights utilizing the aircraft’s VHF 123.05. The pilot then keys the transmitter either 3 times for perimeter lighting, or 5 times to add the corner spot lights, or 7 times to turn system off. All clicks should be in quick succession to turn operate the heliport lights – either individually or incrementally in conformance with FAA specification L-854. Lights are turned off automatically using a timer. • Ventilation system: Mic clicks that turn on helipad lights also close the ventilation system to outside air on the roof of the hospital. o If the helipad lights are illuminated, then the ventilation system is secure for helicopter operations. |
